Rohrbach-lès-Bitche

Rohrbach- lès -Bitche (German Rohrbach ) is a commune with 2102 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and is the capital of the canton of the same name.

Geography

The small town is located 15 kilometers west of Bitche and 36 km south-southeast of Saarbrücken in the Pays de Bitche ( " Bitscher Ländchen" ) in the open country of the Lorraine plateau.

History

Rohrbach belonged to the territory of the Counts of Zweibrücken- Bitsch until their extinction in 1570 and then to Lorraine. End of the 18th century it became the capital of the eponymous canton, which includes fifteen communities.
