Rolf Sørensen
Rolf Sørensen (born 20 April 1965 Helsinge, Denmark ) is a former Danish racing cyclist. He is the most successful Danish bicycle racer of all time with a total of 53 victories in 17 professional years.
Career
Sørensen started his professional career in 1986 with the Italian team Murella - historic Ceremonies. After he was able to celebrate any significant achievements in its first year as a pro, 1987, he won the stage race Tirreno- Adriatico. In 1990 he achieved his victory in Paris -Tours. At the Tour de France 1991, the Dane was wearing the yellow jersey for four days, although he had succeeded no stage victory.
His best season was Sørensen in 1993 as he reach in addition to victories in Liège -Bastogne -Liège, Milan -Turin and Around the Henninger Tower also stages in the Tour de Suisse, Tirreno- Adriatico, Tour de Romandie and the Basque Country Tour. At the Tour de France in 1994, he celebrated on the 14th stage his first of two wins and a year later he won the ninth stage of the Giro d' Italia. After his second Tour stage victory he had succeeded in 1996, he took a few weeks later in the road race of the Summer Olympic Games silver medal.
In 1997, Sørensen won the Tour of Flanders for themselves. Up to end of his career in 2002 he still get more overall victories in smaller country tours.
Doping
In March 2013 Sørensen admitted to have been part of the EPO era, and to have doped during his career with EPO and steroids.
