Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Medan

The Archdiocese of Medan (Latin: Archidioecesis Medanensis ) is located in Indonesia Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Medan.

History

The Archdiocese of Medan was established on June 30, 1911 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of Batavia as Apostolic Prefecture of Sumatra. On December 27, 1923, the Apostolic Prefecture of Sumatra were parts of their territory from establishing the apostolic prefectures and Bangka and Billiton Benkoelen. The Apostolic Prefecture was renamed Sumatra on December 27, 1923 in Apostolic Prefecture of Padang.

On 18 July 1932, the Apostolic Prefecture of Padang was by Pope Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Ut aucto Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate of Padang was renamed on December 23, 1941 in Apostolic Vicariate of Medan. The Apostolic Vicariate of Medan was on November 17, 1959 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Sibolga.

On January 3, 1961, the Apostolic Vicariate of Medan was by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quod Christ raised to an archbishopric.
