History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Purwokerto with the Breve Magna animi on May 15, 1952 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Batavia.

She was raised on 16 October 1941 Apostolic Vicariate. It was raised on January 3, 1961 bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Semarang is a suffragan.
