Roman Catholic Diocese of Amboina
The Diocese of Amboina (Latin: Dioecesis Amboinaënsis ) is located in Indonesia Roman Catholic diocese based in Ambon.
History
The Diocese of Amboina was posted on December 22, 1902 by Pope Leo XIII. from the Apostolic Vicariate of territory Batavia built as Apostolic Prefecture of Dutch New Guinea. The Prefecture Apostolic of Dutch New Guinea was on August 29, 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate. On May 12, 1949, the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch New Guinea was part of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Hollandia.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch New Guinea was renamed on May 12, 1949 in Apostolic Vicariate of Amboina. On 24 June 1950, the Apostolic Vicariate of Amboina were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Merauke. The Apostolic Vicariate of Amboina was born on January 3, 1961 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quod Christ to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Makassar is a suffragan.
