Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Samarinda
The Archdiocese of Samarinda (Latin: Archidioecesis Semarangensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Samarinda in Indonesia.
History
Pope Pius XII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate on February 21, 1955 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Banjarmasin. On January 3, 1961, was raised to the rank of a bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Pontianak assumed as suffragan.
A part of its territory it lost on 9 January 2002 in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Tanjung Selor. On 29 January 2003 it was raised to the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.
