Roman Catholic Diocese of Banjarmasin

The Diocese of Banjarmasin (Latin: Dioecesis Bangiarmasinus ) is located in Indonesia Roman Catholic diocese based in Banjarmasin.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Surabaia on May 21, 1938 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch Borneo. With the Apostolic Constitution Quo enascentium it was raised on 10 March 1949 in the rank of Apostolic Vicariate.

It was raised on January 3, 1961 bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Pontianak is a suffragan. On August 22, 1973, adopted the current name. On 29 January 2003 it became part of the new ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Samarinda.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • February 21, 1955 at the Apostolic Vicariate of Samarinda;
  • 5 April 1993 and the diocese Palangkaraya.
