Şanlıurfa Province

Şanlıurfa (Arabic الرها, DMG Raha, Kurdish Riha, Syro -Aramaic ܐ ܘ ܪ ​​ܗ ܝ Urhoy ) is a province in the Republic of Turkey. It is located in Southeastern Anatolia and shares land borders with Syria. In the east, the province of Mardin is located in the west Gaziantep, Adiyaman in the north and north-eastern Diyarbakir. In 2007, she counted 1,523,099 inhabitants.

The capital of the province also called Şanlıurfa.

In the province once lived very many Yazidis, especially in the areas around Viranşehir, Suruc and Birecik.

In 1983, the province and the capital, which until then only Urfa were called, the title Şanlı awarded ( to German glorious ). He should remember the resistance against the French occupation in the Turkish War of Liberation.
