Toyota Ist

The Toyota Is is a small car the Japanese automaker Toyota, which has been marketed since 2002. In Japan, the first generation was as actual by Toyota, in the USA the same car, however, was sold in the first generation Scion xA as. It is based on the Toyota Yaris. The second generation is again in Japan as Toyota and now marketed in the U.S. as a Scion xD. Since 2009, this generation is also offered in Europe as Toyota Urban Cruiser. The main competitors in Japan are the Honda Fit and the Nissan March.

First generation (2002-2007)

Based on the first generation Toyota YarisSchrägheck the first generation shared a platform with the Toyota Platz. The actual was then developed with a crossover SUV design and offered the flexibility of larger SUVs, but with the advantage of a lower fuel consumption. It was first unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2001 and 2002 began production. At its launch, 42,000 copies in Japan were reserved. Toyota had initially planned to install a turbocharger but the plans were never realized.

Second generation (since 2007)

The second generation, based on the Toyota Yaris second generation in 2007 was still only on the Japanese market. In the U.S. market the Scion xA was replaced by the xD. This differs clearly from the IS at the front. The second generation grew in length and width, but was flat. In Germany it is marketed as a Toyota Urban Cruiser since 2009.
