Veronica Cochelea

Veronica Cochelea (* November 15, 1965 in Iaşi as Veronica Cogeanu ) is a former Romanian rower. With two Olympic gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal she is one of the most successful rowers.

The World Rowing Championships 1986, she won under her maiden name Cogeanu along with Elisabeta Lipa silver in the double sculls behind Sylvia Schwabe and Martina Schröter from the GDR. At the 1988 Olympic Games Cogeanu and Lipa again won silver behind Birgit Peter and Martina Schröter. Cogeanu and Lipa also sat in the Romanian sculls and won bronze there.

After her marriage she joined the World Rowing Championships in 1989 when Veronica Cochelea. Together with Lipa she won silver behind Beate Schramm and Jana Sorgers. 1990 Cochelea rowed at the World Championships in the aft and became world champion in 1991, she won bronze. For the 1992 Olympics Cochelea returned to the sculling boats. With Elisabeta Lipa won silver behind Kerstin Koppen and Kathrin Boron, while Lipa winning gold in the One who Cochelea received in the quadruple sculls together with Constanţa Pipotă, Doina Ignat and Anisoara Bălan - Dobre silver behind the German boat.

In 1993 they rose in the aft along with Pipota and Ignat. In the world title in 1993 was followed by bronze in 1994 and silver in 1995. Followed for the Romanian eight golden years with the Olympic gold medal in Atlanta in 1996 and the World Cup titles in 1997 and 1998. Cochelea 2000 won their fourth Olympic Games, her second gold medal.
