Webb Franklin

William Webster " Webb " Franklin ( born December 13, 1941 in Greenwood, Mississippi) is an American politician. Between 1983 and 1987 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Webb Franklin attended Greenwood High School and thereafter until 1963, the Mississippi State University in Starkville. Finally, he was still studying at the University of Mississippi in Oxford Jura. In 1966 he was admitted by the Bar Association as a lawyer. Until 1970 he was a military lawyer in the U.S. Army. After the end of his military Franklin practiced from 1970 to 1972 as a private lawyer before he became district attorney for the fourth judicial district of Mississippi. He held from 1972 to 1978 this office. From 1978 to 1982 he was a judge in the same district.

Politically, Franklin became a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1982 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat David R. Bowen on January 3, 1983. He was the first elected Republican in this district, since Elza Jeffords was in 1885 resigned from the Congress. After a re-election in 1984, Franklin was able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 1987. For the 1986 elections he was defeated Mike Espy. Since the end of his time in Congress, Franklin worked as a lawyer again. He now lives in his native Greenwood.
