- November 7: Built by Heinrich Seeling German opera house in Charlottenburg opened with a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's opera Fidelio, conducted by Ignatz Waghalter.
- The Finnish soprano Aino Ackté founded in Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Olavinlinna.
Blues
- September: The African- American WC Handy published in Memphis, Tennessee, his 1909 piece written The Memphis Blues. It is considered the first published blues piece of history.
