8th Independent Spirit Awards
The eighth award of the Independent Spirit Awards took place on 27 March 1993.
Summary
Robert Altman's bitter satire on Hollywood, The Player, was the best film, but otherwise nominated for any other award. Quentin Tarantino's first feature film Reservoir Dogs on the other hand got three nominations, but was defeated in competition for Best Director (Carl Franklin won ) and the best debut film. Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant received three nominations, but it will only lead actor Harvey Keitel. Jim Jarmusch's Night on Earth ballad taxi driver received the camera price, but no other nominations. The for the second time for the best foreign film nominee Neil Jordan won for The Crying Game and as pointed heavyweights of world cinema such as Nikita Mikhalkov and Zhang Yimou on the courts.
