In the network plans from 1976 and 1985 is only a connection between Łódź and Wrocław included, which should be linked to a north-south range. In the network of 1993 route Lodz to Wroclaw is then referred to as A8, which should meet the A3 in the further course. In the network in 1996, the route is still included. Since 2001, the connection between Łódź and Wrocław is planned as an expressway S8. The connection to the S3 expressway is omitted. From the A8, the avoidance of Wroclaw is only remained.

Stages

The construction work was divided into three stages and made von 2008 to 2011. The construction contracts were signed on October 16, 2008 ( Section 1 ), on 20 May 2008 ( stage 2a) and on 22 October 2008 ( stage 2b). On 31 August 2011, the entire highway for the transport has been released.

Question to toll collection

The case of the toll collection on the Autostrada A8 was not decided from the outset. According to the decision of the Government dated 16 July 2002, the highway will be toll roads. The motorways are so made that the toll may be charged. Following the debate, the politician Grzegorz Schetyna in 2008, the ride will be free. On June 27, 2010 promised the Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk that all along highways of major cities toll-free maneuvering space for passenger cars (cars ), trucks ( lorries) remain to 3.5 tonnes and for motorcycles. On 27 July 2011, during the Open Day, the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the highway construction site and be assured that the bypass of Wroclaw is toll-free for cars (car), truck up to 3.5t and stay for motorcycles. However, grading the highway to highway to be made in order for the fee exemption is not contrary to the Polish law, and no toll charges can be introduced later. In contrast, it was decided September 1, 2011 by the Polish Ministry of Transport that the bypass continue to be posted as a motorway and deleted from the list of toll motorways. The last piece of information was the beginning of December 2011 confirmed by the government.
