Al Quie

Albert Harold Quie ( born September 18, 1923, Wheeling Township, Minnesota ) is a former American politician of the Republican Party. He was 1958-1979 deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1983 and Governor of the State of Minnesota.

Quie was born in 1923 on the family farm in Wheeling Township near Dennison. After serving in World War II as a pilot for the U.S. Navy, he graduated at St. Olaf College, a degree in political science and graduated in 1950.

1954 Quie was elected to the Minnesota Senate. A 1958 made ​​necessary by the death of Representative August H. Andresen special election he won, and thus became a member of the U.S. Congress. This he was a member until 1979, when he was the 35th Governor of Minnesota. In the gubernatorial election he won out over seven percent lead over Democratic incumbent Rudy Perpich.
