Algolsheim

Algolsheim (Alsatian: " Algelse " ) is a commune with 1181 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the community association Pays de Brisach.

Geography

Algolsheim is located a few kilometers east of Neuf- Brisach. Since it is only two kilometers from the Rhine and thus removed from the border with Germany, lived there many German, who settled here in recent years and led to an increase in the number of inhabitants. History

Algolsheim was first mentioned historically in 1192 under the name Altolvesheim. The name of the municipality changed the course of history: Altholvisherde it was 1196, Arcolvesheim 1256, 1302 and Altcolzheim Altolzheim from the 14th century.

From 1324 until the French Revolution, the place was under the influence of the Counts and Dukes of Württemberg. During the Thirty Years' War, the village had much to suffer, in 1638 the church was burnt down.

In September 1939, the population was evacuated in the department of Lot- et- Garonne to Chaumont, from where she returned in the summer of 1940. On February 6, 1945, the community was free, but it was badly damaged during the Second World War.
