Eschbach-au-Val

Eschbach -au- Val ( German Eschbach in the valley, alsatian Eschbe - in - Dal ) is a commune with 374 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the Munster ( Vallée de Munster) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the community association Vallée de Munster.

Geography

The center Eschbach is 1.4 miles south of the cantonal capital of Muenster ( Munster), with which it is grown together structurally and 15 kilometers northwest of Gebweiler ( Guebwiller ) on the western edge of Alsace, in a valley of the Vosges. It is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

History

Through the community's ash, a stream which was probably lined with ash trees and the location helped to his name flows. 824 the place name was first mentioned. Eschbach -au -Val belonged since then until the French Revolution (1789-1799) the Benedictine monastery of Saint- Grégoire in Münster.

1793 received Eschbach -au -Val in the wake of the French Revolution the status of a municipality ( as " Eschbach " ) and 1801 the right to local self-government ( as " Esbach ").
