Weckolsheim

Weckolsheim is a commune with 613 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), in the Alsace Haut -Rhin and is located southwest of Neuf- Brisach in the same canton. It belongs to the community association Pays de Brisach.

Geography

Weckolsheim lies in the fertile upper Rhine plain between the Rhine in the east and the Vosges mountains in the west. In the east, the Canal Vauban leads past Weckolsheim.

Neighboring municipalities are in the north Wolfgantzen, northeast Volgelsheim, in the east Algolsheim, in the southeast Obersaasheim, southwest and west Dessenheim Hettenschlag. The sub-prefecture Colmar is located about 17 miles northwest.

History

Weckolsheim was probably settled as early as the time of the Merovingian. Over the history of the place belonged to the monastery Murbach, the House of Habsburg, and then the men of Rappoltstein, where he remained until the French Revolution.
