Kunheim

Kunheim ( Els Küene IPA: [ kyə̯nə ]; Kuenheim dt ) is a commune with 1789 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region.

History

First known records date from a deed of gift from the year 998, and from the chronicle of Ebersmünster from the 13th century. 1766 the site was moved to one kilometers because of repeated flooding of the meandering Rhine. This affected 32 families for a total of an estimated 200 people. Presented to aid in the resettlement of the surrounding villages men and wagons.

At the beginning of World War II, the village population was largely evacuated after Casteljaloux in the department of Lot- et- Garonne. This event was 60 years later in June 1999 event in support of an official community partnership between the two communities.

At the beginning of the German campaign in France the place was on 16 June 1940, heavy German artillery fire, as did after the successful liberation by American troops of the place from the Nazis on February 2, 1945.

Today Kunheim is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays de Brisach.
