Argiésans

Argiésans is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Argiésans is located on 349 m, ​​about five kilometers southwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Burgundy gate, in a wide opening to the west of the Valley of Savoureuse and their side Douce River, between the heights of Grand Bois and Bois du Mont in the south to the west.

The area of ​​2.73 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area occupied by the valley of Argiésans, which is an average of 350 meters and has a width of 1.5 km. It is used as arable and meadow land for agricultural purposes. For drainage east to Douce (tributary of Savoureuse ) of the village stream Rupt, which rises in Trou Gavoillot provides. To the east of the municipality floor extends to the waters of the Douce. History

Is first mentioned Argiésans in 1024. It was the capital of the Bas- dairy Rosemont, which belonged to the rule Rosemont. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Argiésans reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Argiésans belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Since 2000 Argiésans is part of the municipal association Communauté d' Agglomà Belfortaine.

Population

With 406 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Argiésans one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​110-150 people, a strong population growth has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Argiésans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
