Belmonte in Sabina
Belmonte in Sabina is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, located about 644 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 78 km northeast of Rome and 35 km north- west of Rieti.
Geography
Belmonte is situated on a long ridge overlooking the valley of Turano in the Sabine mountains. The districts are Prime Ville, Ville Seconde, Terze Ville, Sant Elena, Zoccani, Bivio Parigi, San Nicola, Cava and Turano.
Belmonte is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano.
The nearby towns are Longone Sabino, Rieti, Rocca Sinibalda and Torricella in Sabina.
History
Belmonte was first Castrum Belmontis in two bulls of Pope John XXII. mentioned.
