Borgo Velino
Borgo Velino is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, located about 996 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 96 km northeast of Rome and 22 km east of Rieti.
Geography
Borgo Velino is surrounded by the mountains of Abruzzo Reatinischen in the valley of the Velino. To the municipality, the hamlet Collerinaldo heard the head of the valley on the slopes of Monte Nuria (1888 m) is located.
Borgo Velino is a member of the Comunità Montana del Velino.
The nearby towns are Antrodoco, Castel Sant'Angelo, Cittaducale, Fiamignano, Micigliano and Petrella Salto.
Traffic
Borgo Velino is located on Via Salaria SS 4 which leads from Rome over Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast at Porto d' Ascoli. The community is also connected to the railway station Antrodoco - Borgo Velino on the railway line Terni - Sulmona.
History
Already in pre-Roman times was on the right hilly bank of the Velino, the settlement of the Sabines Viarium. On the left side of the river was the settlement Borghetto founded in the 14th century by the inhabitants of the destroyed Cittaducale Forca Pretula right on the Via Salaria, they moved in with the time, the residents of Viarium. Borghetto belonged to the 19th century to Cittaducale and with this the Kingdom of Naples. 1865 Borghetto was renamed in Borgo Velino. Since 1923 it belongs to the province of Rieti.
