Poggio Nativo

Poggio Nativo is a municipality with 2532 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography

Poggio Nativo is 55 km northeast of Rome and 29 km south of Rieti. It is located in the Sabine mountains above the Valley of Farfa. The municipal area extends 194-494 m slm

The municipality consists of the villages of Casali di Poggio Nativo, by far has the most inhabitants and Monte Santa Maria.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).

The neighboring municipalities are Casaprota, Castelnuovo di Farfa, Frasso Sabino, Mompeo, Nerola (RM ), Poggio Moiano, Scandriglia and Toffia.

Traffic

The district Casali is situated on the state road strada 4 Via Salaria (SS 4), which leads from Rome about Rieti to the Adriatic coast. The nearest motorway exit Roma Nord is on the A1 Autostrada del Sole is 26 km away.

The nearest railway station is located in Passo Corese at the regional railway line FR1 from Rome Fiumicino Airport via Rome Tiburtina to Orte, 22 km away.

History

Poggio Nativo was founded in the 10th century under the name podium Donadei.
