Rocca Sinibalda

Rocca Sinibalda is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, 841 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 72 km northeast of Rome and 19 km south of Rieti.

Geography

Rocca Sinibalda is situated on a hill overlooking the valley of the Turano in the Sabine mountains. It is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano.

The districts are Magnalardo, Pantana, Posticciola, Tomas Ella, Torricchia, Trampani and Vallecupola.

The nearby towns are Ascrea, Belmonte in Sabina, Castel di Tora, Colle di Tora, Concerviano, Longone Sabino, Monteleone Sabino, Poggio Moiano, Torricella in Sabina, Varco Sabino.

History

Rocca Sinibalda 1084 was mentioned for the first time. It belonged to the abbey of Farfa. In 1527 it came into the possession of the noble family Cesarini who commissioned Baldassare Peruzzi with the redesign of the castle.

Attractions

  • The castle in Rocca Sinibalda dates from the 11th century and was in the Renaissance ( from 1539 ) by Baldassare Peruzzi rebuilt. Inside there are frescoes of the 16th century.
  • The Castello Mareri in Posticciola dates from the 13th and 14th centuries
  • The castle in Magnalardo goes back to the 10th century ..
  • The parish church of Santi Agapito e Giustino was built in the 16th century and still conserves frescoes from this period.
