With the first the district reform in Saxony -Anhalt in 1994, these identifiers were abolished and the new identifiers " BOE " for Bördekreis and "OK" for Ohrekreis for the two counties. The " BOE " represented a novelty, since combinations that differ only by the umlaut and the associated vowel, were not provided. In the " BOE " for Bördekreis was a likelihood of confusion with " BO " for the city of Bochum in the Ruhr.

On 1 November 2007, the indicator " BOE " and "OK " were again changed.
