Bougy -Villars is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Bougy -Villars is located on 548 m above sea level. M., above Rolle, 11 km west-southwest of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The wine village stretches in the middle of vineyards on the southern slopes of the Vaud Cote, in a scenic location around 170 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​1.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Cote. The communal land extends from the foot of the slope northward over the vineyards of the Cote to the viewpoint of Signal de Bougy (707 m above sea level. M. ). In a small corner of the area extends to the northwest into the headwaters of the Armary at the farm estate La Gingine. On the elongated height of the Signal de Bougy is 720 m above sea level. Population

With 419 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bougy -Villars is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 85.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 8.1 % and 2.7 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Bougy -Villars amounted in 1850 to 304 residents in 1900 to 271 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 211 to 1960 inhabitants, continued since then a rapid population increase, with a doubling of the population within 40 years.

Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 996 under the name in villa Balgedelco. Later, the names Balgels, Balgeel ( 1052) Bougels and 1285 Bougy -Milon appeared. The place was originally owned by the Abbey Romainmôtier, but even monastery Bonmont had land in Bougy -Villars. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of Kastlanei Mont- le -Vieux in the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime Bougy -Villars belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Aubonne.

Attractions

The small village has two churches. The first church was built in the 19th century above the village by a former cheese factory rebuilt and provided with a bell tower. Because this church was threatened in the early 20th century by a landslide, a new church was built in Ticino style east of the village. In the center some characteristic wine farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. The Hotel du Signal Built in 1902 at the height above Bougy -Villars was demolished to create a leisure center and a public park ( Pré Vert ).
