Çanakkale Province

Çanakkale is a province of Turkey. Its capital is the city of Canakkale. Here is the Battle of Gallipoli took place.

The province extends across the European Eastern Thrace up to the Asian Asia Minor, which through the Dardanelles ( Çanakkale bogazi ) are separated.

The province has 490 397 inhabitants (conditions 2010) in an area of 9,950 km ². It is bounded on the northwest by the province of Edirne, on the northeast by Tekirdag and to the southeast by Balıkesir.

The population density is 49 inhabitants / km ². For the province, the islands Gökçeada ( Imbros ) and Bozcaada include ( Tenedos ).
