Dobropillia

Dobropillja (Ukrainian Добропілля; Russian Доброполье / Dobropolje ) is a mining town in the Donets Basin in eastern Ukraine in the Donetsk Oblast with 31,111 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geographical location

Dobropillja is located in the Donbas city of regional significance and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons 95 km NW from Oblastzentrum Donetsk.

Municipality

The entire municipality has 63,500 inhabitants ( 2013).

It is divided into the city Dobropillja, the city council municipalities:

  • Bilezke with: Bilezke (city, ukrainian Білицьке )
  • Wodjanske ( urban-type settlement, Ukrainian Водянське )
  • Biloserske (city, ukrainian Білозерське )
  • Bokowe ( settlement, Ukrainian Бокове )

  • Nowodonezke with: Nowodonezke ( urban-type settlement, Ukrainian Новодонецьке )

History

Founded in 1840, the site was given city rights on August 8, 1953. Since 1963 Dobropillja is a city of regional significance and since 1966 Rajonzentrum. The place was occupied by September 1943 to October 19, 1941 (with interruptions ) by troops of the German Wehrmacht. From 1968 to 2010, there were in the city a catenary bus system (Ukrainian Добропільський тролейбус ) with a length of about 15 kilometers.

Rajon

Dobropillja is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons, even though no part of it. The Rajon Dobropillja lies to the east of Donetsk Oblast and is bordered to the west by the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. It has an area of 949 km ², a population of 20,482 inhabitants and a population density of 22 inhabitants per km ².
