Marinka, Ukraine

Marjinka (Ukrainian Мар'їнка; Russian Марьинка / Marjinka ) is a small city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with 9700 inhabitants ( 2013). The city is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons.

Geography

Marjinka located in the southern Donbass 27 km southwest of Oblastzentrum Donetsk on the highway.

For the municipality, which has an area of ​​51.92 km ², is one next to the city itself nor the village Pobjeda (Ukrainian Побєда ) with 144 inhabitants.

History

The city was founded in 1844 and received in 1938 the status of an urban-type settlement. During the Second World War Marjinka was occupied on 19 October 1941 by the Wehrmacht and freed on September 9, 1943 by the Red Army. Marjinka since 1977 has the status of a city.
