Éloie

Éloie is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Éloie is located on 395 m above the sea, about six kilometers north of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the foothills of the Vosges, on the southern edge of the basin of Giromagny, which extends between the Vosges mountains, the hills of the Forêt de Roppe and the Montagne de Salbert, in the plain on both sides of the river the Rosemontoise.

The area of ​​5.55 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the Vosges foothills. The northern part of the area occupied by the level of the pelvis Giromagny, which is on average 400 m. It is partly passed with arable and meadow land, partly by forest. The area is crossed by the Rosemontoise, from left receives the Verdoyeux the village. Along the rivers and in hollows there are numerous ponds that were once created for fish farming. To the north of the municipality of soil ranges in the extensive forests of the Forêt de Vaivre and the Forêt de la Chaume. South of the village the land rises gradually to the hills of the Forêt de Roppe. Also, this section is mostly forested. With 490 m is achieved at Mont Rodolphe the highest elevation of Éloie. On the southeast of the communal land extends to the Etang Rodolphe at the foot of Fort de Roppe. A part of the site is designated as a military firing range.

Neighboring communities of Éloie are Chaux and Grosmagny in the north, and Anjoutey Roppe the east, Vétrigne, Offemont and Valdoie in the south and Sermamagny in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Éloie in 1347. Initially standing in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard, the village has always been one to rule Rosemont. This came mid-14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau Éloie came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Since 1976 Éloie member of the agglomeration Belfort (now community association Communauté d' Agglomà Belfortaine ).

The chapel was built by Éloie 1957. It was prepared by the inhabitants of a dilapidated shack and now serves as a meeting room of the church.

Population Development

With 1005 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Éloie one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 105 to 150 people, a strong population growth has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has increased six-fold.

Economy and infrastructure

Éloie was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some operations of small and medium enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Belfort.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Valdoie after Grosmagny. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about nine miles. Further road links exist with Sermamagny, Rougegoutte and Étueffont. With the city of Belfort Éloie is connected by a bus.
