FIBA Africa Championship 1970

The basketball Africa Cup 1970, the fifth Basketball Championship Africa, United Arab Republic took place between 9 and 15 March 1970 in Alexandria, held that hosted the championship for the second time. Winner was the national team of the United Arab Republic, the defending champion Senegal defeated in the final and thus was able to win the third success in the third part. For the first time also took the team from Somalia in the tournament.

In the Preliminary Round ( Group A and B) was played in two groups, in group A and four teams competed in Group B three. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team exactly three games ( group A) or two games ( group B) (a total of nine games were completed ) completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. The first and second placed a group moved into the semi-finals, with the winners competed against the runners-up of the respective other group. The third place winners of both groups played for fifth place. Somalia has been automatically seventh as fourth in Group A and thus last.
