FIBA Africa Championship 1987

The basketball Africa Cup of 1987, the fourteenth basketball Africa Championship, took place between the 17 and 27 December in 1987 and in Tunis, Tunisia, which hosted the championship for the second time. Winner was the national team of the Central African Republic that could win the title for the second time. In the final, Egypt could be beaten.

In the Preliminary Round ( Group A and B) was played to four ( group A) or five years (Group B) teams into two groups. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team exactly three (group A ) or four games ( a total of 16 games have been completed ) completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. The two highest point totals moved into the semi-finals. In case of equality of the Direct Comparison decided. Since the second - to fourth-placed teams were equal on points in Group A and Mali against Tunisia, Tunisia defeated Mali to Nigeria and Nigeria, the relative goal average decided from these three games. There Angola played against Egypt and the Central African Republic to Mali to reach the finals. The third-placed teams playing for fifth place and fourth place to seventh place. Algeria ended up as bottom of Group B to ninth overall and became the last of the tournament.
