Fritz Schär

Fritz Schär ( born March 13, 1926 in Kaltenbach, † September 29, 1997 in Frauenfeld ) was a Swiss racing driver.

Fritz Schär belonged in the 1950s together with Hugo Koblet and Ferdy Kübler among the world's strongest cyclists of Switzerland. His particular strength was the mountain driving. In 1947, he was Swiss champion in cross country. In his time as a professional until 1958, he also notched up numerous wins for himself, including twice in the Championship of Zurich (1949, 1950 ) and the Swiss road championship ( 1953). He also won five stages in the Tour de Suisse, which he finished in 1953 and 1956 respectively in second.

Schärs greatest achievements were a silver medal at the road world championships in 1954 in Solingen behind Louison Bobet and the Langerringen the yellow jersey in the Tour de France in 1953, he was carrying a total of six days. Finally, he finished sixth in the overall standings and won the green jersey, which was awarded in that year for the first time.

That Fritz Schär dopte intense, was an open secret. His nickname was " pill Fritz". He is the grandfather of the Swiss triathletes Ronnie Schildknecht.
