Ještěd ski jumping hills

The ski jumps on Ještěd ( German ridge) in the North Bohemian Liberec ( Reichenberg German ) are again the venue for World Cup competition. 2009 competitions were held, as Liberec hosted the 47th FIS Nordic World Ski Championships here.

History

Already at the beginning of the last century Liberec was a center of skiing. Already in the 1920s there were several jumps in different districts of the city.

At the 1012 m high mountain Ještěd the first jumps were built in 1966. It was a K90 and a K70 ski jump, which has since shared the landing area. For the Junior World Championship 1976 both hills were newly built and received a judge's tower.

In the 1980s came another K50 ski jump to this could be temporarily jumped on in the summer. At that time, will be played before a large crowd of spectators many international competitions, such as the so-called Bohemia tour and competitions in the Nordic combined.

In 1992, the hills were again modernized, and later a ski jump lift came about.

For the 2009 World Cup, a new judge's tower was built and installed floodlights. In addition, all four hills were covered with mats and thus are available all year round.

Ještěd "A"

The large hill in Liberec is regularly used for World Cup competition. The last competition of this series took place on 8 and 9 January 2008 Thomas Morgenstern and Anders Jacobsen could then decide the competitions. Also for World Cup competitions in the Nordic combined the hill is used again and again. Here is the last competition on 23 January 2005 was fought, the winner was Hannu Manninen. 2010 also found a jump of Summer Series Grand Prix held on this hill.

Ještěd "B"

The small ski jump of Liberec is not used for international competitions of men ( apart from the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009). But it is an important training center for the Ski Association of the Czech Republic and it will also find Continental Cup competitions of Women. The Jumping at the Junior World Championships 2013 were held on this hill.
