It is called by the Unterrodach, also Tame Unterrodach, as well as their source river Wilde Unterrodach traversed. The Unterrodach rises in the north-east of the circle, then flows in a southwesterly direction and opens outside the circle in the Main. In Kronach it takes the light coming from the north Haßlach on.

History

The area of present-day district Kronach belonged predominantly to the Bishopric of Bamberg before 1800. 1802 became part of Bavaria. 1804, the District Courts Kronach, Lauenstein and Teuschnitz were formed, which were part of the main circuit, from 1817 to the Upper Main District, from 1838 to Upper Franconia. 1837 the seat of the District Courts Lauenstein was moved to Louis city and Teuschnitz to North Half. 1862 both district courts were pooled for county Teuschnitz, simultaneously arose from the District Court of the District Office Kronach Kronach. 1880, the district office Teuschnitz was dissolved and its communities affiliated to the district office Kronach. But the district office Teuschnitz in 1888 was re- established because of poor transport connection to Kronach. 1931, it was finally resolved. His congregations were but two to the district office Kronach. The district office and the district Kronach were renamed in the district office or district Kronach 1939. During the period of German division, the district area to the north, west and east was completed through the border fortifications of the German Democratic Republic. Places like Welitsch, Nordhalben or Burggrub were close to the border; the border fortifications are still partially identifiable (in particular in Welitsch at Pressig ).

In the 1972 local government reorganization, the county Kronach was not changed except for minor boundary adjustments. The municipality was incorporated into Dürrenwaid Geroldsgrün in the neighboring county court. The market town Seibelsdorf out of the former county town of Steinach joined with four other communities together to market Marktrodach.
