Larivière, Territoire de Belfort

Larivière is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Larivière is at 360 m above sea level, nearly seven miles east-northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village street lines extends to the north of the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau near the Vosges mountains, in the valley of the Ruisseau de Saint -Nicolas.

The area of ​​4.84 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The eastern boundary runs along the Ruisseau de Saint- Nicolas, flowing through a valley to the south. He takes south of the village on the Margrabant who is responsible with an additional side stream for drainage of the area. The level in the foothills of the Vosges is on average 360 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. With 381 meters, the highest elevation of Larivière is achieved at the northern boundary of the municipality. History

Is first mentioned Larivière in 1322 under the name Ryefier. Over time, the spelling on La Rivière ( 1515) and Rivière ( 1579) to Larivière (since 1790) changed. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Larivière arrived mid-14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, Larivière belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Since 1997, Larivière is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Tilleul.

The Church of St. Quirin ( Église Saint- Quirin ) was built from 1758 to 1789 (completion of the tower ).

Population

With 311 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Lariviere is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1901 206 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Larivière was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
