Le Lieu

Le Lieu ( [ lə ʎø ], Provençal in the local dialect [ lu ʎø ], [ o lo] or [ lu ʎœ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Le Lieu is located at 1043 m above sea level. M., 31 km southwest of the district capital Yverdon -les -Bains, 30 km northwest of Lausanne ( straight line ). The community extends in the Vallée de Joux, in a depression, which is separated by the rib area of Le Revers from the Lac de Joux, at the edge of the Petit Risoux, in the Vaud Jura.

The area of ​​32.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Jura and the northwestern half of the surface water of the Lac de Joux and the northerly adjacent Brenet. From the steep banks of the Lac de Joux, the communal land extends to the northwest on the Kalkrippe of the lapels, the trough of Le Lieu, in which also the small lake Lake Ter ( 1,017 m above sea level. M. ) is up on the anticline Petit Risoux. On the Gros Cret is with 1'419 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Le Lieu achieved. At Le Lieu includes the two villages Le Séchey ( 1,037 m above sea level. M. ) on the northeastern edge of the basin of Lake Ter and Charbonnières ( 1,017 m above sea level. M. ) on the southwestern shore of Lake Brenet. In addition to Le Lieu include the settlement Esserts -de -Rive ( 1,008 m above sea level. M. ) on the shores of Lac de Joux and numerous individual farms that are scattered on the heights of Petit Risoux. Neighboring communities of Le Lieu are Vallorbe, L' Abbaye and Le Chenit in the canton of Vaud and Mouthe, Sarrageois, Villedieu Les and Jean Roche in neighboring France.

Population

With 866 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Le Lieu is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 88.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.5 % and 2.5 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Le Lieu amounted in 1860 to 1024 population, 1900 to 1161 inhabitants. Economy

Tourism

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main street of Vallorbe to Le Sentier. From Charbonnières a road leading over the Risoux after Mouthe in France. History

The beginning of the history of a document is not properly documented. Probably settled in the 5th or 6th century, a hermit named Poncet at the site of today's Le Lieu of. The resulting gone hermitage was first mentioned in 1155 under the name of locus dompni Pontii heremitae. Already in 1200 the hermitage was abandoned in favor of the Premonstratensian monastery in L' Abbaye. The Municipality of Le Lieu initially comprised the entire Vallée de Joux, approximately within the limits of today's district of La Vallee. It belonged from 1334 to 1536 to rule Les Clées. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Le Lieu came under the administration of Kastlanei Les Clées in the bailiwick of Yverdon. 1566 the congregation of the bailiwick Romainmôtier was assigned. Attractions

In Le Lieu was in 1416 the chapel Saint- Théodule, the predecessor of the present church was built. The Church of Charbonnières is from 1834.
