List of Manhattan neighborhoods
This list of the quarter (English Neighborhoods ) in the New York City borough of Manhattan is arranged geographically: from the north of the island to the south.
Manhattan is divided into the following areas:
- Uptown Manhattan means an area north of 59th Street and Upper Manhattan starts just north of 96th Street.
- Midtown Manhattan, between 34th Street and 59th Street.
- Downtown Manhattan refers to the area south of 14th Street and Lower Manhattan is located south of Chambers Street.
- The West Side is located west of Fifth Avenue and the East Side east of Fifth Avenue.
- The names of the districts and their boundaries are not officially committed. Therefore, they can move or change with time - eg due to demographic or economic change.
