Mazatán is a municipality in the southwest of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The name comes from the Nahuatl Mazatán and means " place where there is an excess of wild ."
The municipality has 26,573 inhabitants in 6,905 households and covers an area of 384 km ². Administrative seat and largest town of the Municipalities is the same Mazatán; the second- largest city in the municipios is Buenos Aires.
The municipality borders the Municipalities Mazatán Huixtla, Huehuetán and Tapachula and the Pacific Ocean.
