Menoncourt

Menoncourt ( formerly Mimingen German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Menoncourt is located on 376 m above the sea, about seven kilometers east-northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the northern part of the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau south of the Forêt de Roppe in the foothills of the Vosges, between the streams of Ermite and Madeleine.

The area of ​​4.70 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, the average is 370 m and it leans slightly to the south. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. To the east of the municipality floor extends into the more than 500 m wide valley of the Madeleine, which provides for the drainage to the south over the Bourbeuse and Allaine. In the north passes through a wooded slope to the Bois d' Eguenigue, the eastern part of the hill region of the Forêt de Roppe. On the Mont is achieved with 461 m the highest elevation of Menoncourt.

To Menoncourt heard the settlement Les Errues ( 378 m) in the valley of the Madeleine on the eastern edge of the Forêt de Roppe. Neighboring communities of Menoncourt are Anjoutey and Saint- Germain- le- Châtelet in the north, Bethonvilliers in the east, and Lacollonge Phaffans in the south and Eguenigue in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Menoncourt in 1347 under the German name Muningen. The name goes back to the Germanic personal name Muno and the Latin word cortis ( courtyard). First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Menoncourt reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It belonged to the rule Rougemont, but also had other dominions possession in the field. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Menoncourt belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. In the first half of the 20th century the village was served by a railway line, which ran from Belfort to Étueffont, to the French railway network. Since 1997 Menoncourt part of the community association Communauté de communes du Tilleul.

Population

With 425 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Menoncourt one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had clearly decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 298 persons were still counted ), a strong population growth has been recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has more than doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Menoncourt was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the Madeleine was formerly used for the operation of mills. In addition, there are now several companies of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the construction and transportation industry. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are also commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Belfort.

The village has good transport links. It is located on a secondary road that leads from Roppe Fontaine. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about five kilometers. Further road links exist with Bethonvilliers and Phaffans.
