Montbronn

Montbronn ( German Mombronn; 1940-1944 Mountain Brunn ) is a commune with 1670 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Canton Rohrbach- lès -Bitche.

Geography

The municipality is located in the south of Montbronn Bitscher country, at the junction of the Crooked Alsace. The place has a share of the Northern Vosges Natural Park. Montbronn, which essentially runs along two streets, is located at the junction of the Vosges to the Lorraine plateau.

Neighboring communities of Montbronn are Enchenberg in the Northwest, Saint -Louis- lès -Bitche in the east, Mei valley to the southeast, Soucht in the south, the west and Rahling Bining in the northwest.

History

Montbronn was first mentioned in 1150 as Mabrunnen. This points to the numerous wells and springs in the district, were the basis for the past Montbronns as a seaside resort, which ended only in the 19th century. The originally as a fief of the Church of Verdun to Zweibrücken - Bitsch belonging place came in the middle of the 13th century Hanau- Lichtenberg and thus 200 years later to the Palatinate. 1557 Montbronn was Protestant and a center of Protestantism in Bitscher country. 1623 was the cession of the town of Henrietta, niece of the Duke Henri II of Lorraine and Princess of Lixheim. 1702 Montbronn returned back to Lorraine, but remained an enclave until the French Revolution the district Lixheim belonging. From 1790 to 1802 Montbronn belonged to the defunct Canton Lviv, since the canton of Rohrbach.

Economy

The Cristallerie de Montbronn was founded in 1930 by Joseph Ferstler and is still family-owned. It produces consuming valuable glass products, with which it is represented on all major trade shows in the world.

Montbronn is on the road D department Enchenberg 83a - Diemeringen and has a modern and spacious community center.

Culture and sights

  • A blacksmiths from the late 18th century with a magnificent lintel from a Rahlinger workshop.
  • Maison Salladin, built around 1830 by the same family of sculptors, with much statuary.
