Penitential Psalms

The Penitential Psalms are a number of psalms that have the confession of guilt as a theme.

These are the following psalms whose titles are given both in Latin and after the Luther translation 1984:

  • Psalm 6 LUT: Domine, ne in furore; Penitential prayer into temptation
  • Psalm 32 LUT: Beati quorum remissae; From the blessing of forgiveness of sins
  • Psalm 38 LUT: Domine, ne in furore; In severe visitation
  • Psalm 51 LUT: Miserere mei, Deus; God, be merciful to me a sinner!
  • Psalm 102 LUT: Domine, exaudi; Prayer for restoration of Zion
  • Psalm 130 LUT: De Profundis; Out of the depths
  • Psalm 143 LUT: Domine, exaudi; Please to be spared and line

In the census of the Vulgate, these are the Psalms 6, 31, 37, 50, 101, 129 and 142
