Sri Lanka at the Olympics

Sri Lanka, the NOK, the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, founded in 1937 and has been recognized in the same year by the IOC since 1948 takes part in the Olympic Summer Games. From 1948 to 1972, the athletes were under the name of Ceylon (IOC Code CEY ). 1976 was decided not to participate. At Winter Games athletes from Sri Lanka took part yet.

A total of 87 athletes entered, including 21 women, at. Athletes from Sri Lanke have so far won two medals. The first medalist was on 31 July 1948, the Athlete Duncan White, who won the silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles. The second medal, also silver, was obtained on 28 September 2000 by a woman. Susanthika Jayasinghe ran for 200 yards on 2nd place

The youngest member of a team from Sri Lanka in 1988 was the swimmer Dipika Chanmugam which was launched at the age of 16 years. The sailor Phjilip Wijewardene was in 1968 at the age of 44 years, the oldest starter.
