Thailand at the Olympics

The NOC of Thailand, the Olympic Committee of Thailand, was established in 1948 and two years later recognized by the IOC. Since 1952, took the East Asian country, with the exception of the Games of Moscow in 1980, at all Summer Olympic Games in part. 2002 and 2006 the skier Prawat Nagvajara was sent to the Winter Games.

A total of 423 participants, 322 men and 101 women, sent that competed in 21 sports.

First medalists for Thailand was the boxer Phayao Phoontharat, who won bronze in the 1976 flyweight. First Olympic champion in 1996, the boxer Somluck Kamsing featherweight. The most successful athlete was Manus Boonjumnong, again a boxer who became Olympic champion in the light welterweight 2004 and 2008, won the silver medal.

At age 13, the swimmer Rachaniw Bulakul was the youngest participant of Thailand at the Olympic Games. The oldest participant was 58 years in 1972 with the sailor Prince Bira.
