Sviatohirsk

Swjatohirsk (Ukrainian Святогірськ - by 2003 Слов'яногірськ / Slowjanohirsk; Russian Святогорск / Sviatohirsk ) is a city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with 4,612 inhabitants ( 2013). Swjatohirsk is the greenest city in Ukraine - in 2004 accounted for 144.2 m² park in any residents.

Geographical location

Swjatohirsk part of the county from Slowjansk, but located 30 kilometers north of this city on the Seversky Donets, the Oblasthauptstadt Donetsk lies about 120 kilometers south. The town lies on the railway line Artemivsk - Luhansk the Donezka Salisnyzja.

History

The town was founded as a settlement near the monastery Swjatohirsk, which is attested from the 16th century. In the first half of the 18th century, the left bank Sloboda Banno ( Банно ) is attested, on the right bank created in the 19th century another settlement which later Tetjaniwka ( Тетянівка ) is called. Until 1938 this double place Banno - Tetjaniwka called ( Банно - Тетянівка ). After obtaining the status of an urban-type settlement it was renamed in Bannowske / Банновске, received city rights in 1964 and was then called Slowjanohirsk, 2003 the name was changed to its present name.

Between 1930 and 1941 drove the benzene -powered tram Swjatohirsk between the station and the monastery in the village. After the war the company was not resumed and changed the traffic on bus.
