Tumbalá is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. The name comes from the Nahuatl and means " a turned stick" or "the house of the nine words ."

The municipality has about 31,000 inhabitants, is 403.5 km ². Administrative center and largest town of the Municipalities is the same Tumbalá; other large places are Joshil and Hidalgo Joshil.

The municipality borders the Municipalities Tumbalá Salto de Agua, Chilón Yajalón and Tila.
