U.S. Città di Palermo

The U.S. Palermo ( officially: Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo ) is an Italian football club based in the Sicilian capital Palermo.

The club colors are pink and black. As the stadium club serves the Stadio Renzo Barbera, which can accommodate 37,000 spectators. Currently the club plays in the second-highest Italian league, Serie B. The nickname of the team is " Rosa Nero " according to the club's colors pink and black.

History

On November 1, 1900, the Anglo Panormitan Athletic and Football Club of Ignazio Majo Pagano was founded. As a club colors red and blue were chosen. On December 30, the club played its first game against an English selection. This Ignazio Majo Pagano acted as referee. The more experienced Englishman won clearly 5-0.

1907, the club was renamed Palermo Football Club, at the same time you changed the club colors of red and blue to the now legendary Pink Black.

The first success

In 1920, Palermo FBC part in the first edition of the Campionato Siciliano Federale, where they met teams from Catania, Messina and Marsala. Palermo beat out all the competitors and was able to celebrate their first title in club history.

Return to Serie A

The founding

Palermo gave the following season an extraordinary achievement, beat all club records and reached a historic sixth place, which made ​​it possible to qualify for the UEFA Cup. In the 2008 /09 season Palermo began with a defeat in the Italian Cup against Ravenna and an away defeat on the opening day at Udinese, whereupon Stefano Colantuono has been replaced very early by the new coach Davide Ballardini.

Fan culture

The majority of the Palermo fans comes from the town and its surroundings, however, the club enjoys the rest of Italy ( esp. by -arrived Sicilians ) very popular, so that Palermo is also supported at away games by a large Fanschaft.
