Vellescot

Vellescot ( formerly German Hanendorf or Hahndorf ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellescot is located on 364 m, about 14 kilometers southeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The former village street lines extending in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, on the gently sloping hillside north of the creek ecrevisse.

The area of ​​3.55 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in an east-west direction from the valley of the ecrevisse, which provides for the drainage of the Bourbeuse to Allaine. This trough is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which is on average 380 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas. In the Valley of ecrevisse and in the hollows of the plateau there are several ponds that were created for fish farming. To the north, the municipality's area extends over the plateau in the woods Bois du Flandrier and Bois de Ragie de la Dame. With 387 m of the ecrevisse Valley is south reached the highest elevation of Vellescot on the hill.

History

The first mention in writing Vellescot in 1105 under the name Vellecort in a deed of the priory Froidefontaine. Since the 12th century Vellescot included in the County Ferrette. In the first half of the 14th century the village came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau Vellescot came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Through a railway line that ran from Belfort to Réchésy, the village was in 1913 connected to the French railroad network. The operation, however, was reinstated in 1948. Population

With 258 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Vellescot to the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1911 132 people were still counted ), a continuous population growth has been recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Was Vellescot until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. The village is located off the major road links on a secondary road that leads from Delle by Danne Marie. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 16 kilometers. Further road links exist with Grosne, Brebotte and Suarce.
