History

To 1212/1220 Obereschenbach was passed ( since 1917 Wolfram -Eschenbach ) of the Wertheimer counts as a gift to the Teutonic Order. From this point, the German religious plays a significant role in the history of Eschenbach. He ruled over 600 years of the city. Eschenbach lay on an important trade route and was after some time, the regional trading center as well as a secular and spiritual center. Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian gave the place on December 18, 1332 the municipal law.

From 1500 to 1806 the city belonged to the Frankish Empire circle, because the Deutschordensballei francs was incorporated into this realm circle.

Religions

The Catholic Cathedral Parish Wolfram -Eschenbach is part of the Dean's Office Herrieden within the bishopric of Eichstätt. Current parish administrator is pastor Jochen Scherzer.

In the city of Wolfram -Eschenbach 1786 Catholics whose principal residence (as of December 1, 2010). At the parish also includes 467 Catholic Christians in the neighboring town Remember village. For they are held monthly Sunday services in the local Protestant cemetery chapel of St. John.

The tungsten - Eschenbach Parish Church (also known as Notre Dame Cathedral ) is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. In addition, there are in the cemetery of St. Sebastian's Church from the early 16th century (later in the rococo style remodeled ). In the district of worthies stream is a branch church with the patronage of the Holy Family.

In Wolfram -Eschenbach there was since 1802 a Jewish prayer hall which has been abandoned in 1933. Some Jewish believers have been brought about Erlangen and emigrated to Hamburg 1933/1934 in the USA, some of them in the New England states, some to Texas and California.

Museum Wolfram von Eschenbach The museum displays items from the city's history such as fire utensils, guild chests and interest books.

Structures

The medieval town is surrounded by a perfectly preserved ramparts ( walls ) with two large gate towers as access to the city. There is also the Powder Tower and the hunger tower on the south side, but without a goal.

Wolfram -Eschenbach as a film set

1974 served Wolfram -Eschenbach as the backdrop for the children's film classic The robber Hotzenplotz with Gert Frobe, Josef Meinrad, Rainer Basedow and Lina Carstens. In the credits of the film director Gustav Ehmck called explicitly, the population of the place as a performer, and the name " Eschenbach " is also mentioned by name in the film.
