Bannay (Moselle)

Bannay ( German Bizingen, Lorraine Bénaïe ) is a commune with 80 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Bannay located on the German Nied, about 20 kilometers east of Metz. The municipality also includes the south west hamlet Itzing.

History

The small village on the French side of the former German - French language border belongs to France since 1769, previously it was part of the Austrian exclave Rollingen. From 1871 to 1918 Bannay belonged to the German Empire, but French remained the official and vernacular.
